The following encompasses a detailed outline of the current projects in which Thoth Impact Advisory is engaged:
Australian Government: New South Wales Office of Social Impact Investment (OSII)
EXPERT ADVISORY EXCHANGE (EAX)
2019 – PRESENT
The New South Wales Office of Social Impact Investment (OSII) is the team managing the social impact investing initiatives for the New South Wales (NSW) State Government of the Commonwealth of Australia and its partners. It is jointly managed by the NSW State Government’s Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) and NSW Treasury.
OSII overseas and is the main implementor of the NSW State Government’s Social Impact investment Policy, collaborating closely with other government agencies and non-government partners. Key aspects of this work entail cultivating new social impact investment transactions and capacity building among government agencies and non-government partners, such as (albeit not exclusively) corporate investors and not-for-profits (NFPs), to become active stakeholders in the social impact investing space.
Thoth Impact Advisory and its Founder & Principal, Kunal Kirpalani, have been invited by OSII to become a member of its advisory panel, the Expert Advice Exchange (EAX). The main objective of the EAX is to connect social sector organisations in NSW with impact investing-orientated consultancy services from leading professional services firms, law firms and financial institutions.
Consultancy services are available in a number of areas, including:
program development, implementation and evaluation
financial management and accounting
strategy, such as business planning, IT systems and communications
legal issues, such as governance, intellectual property and regulatory matters.
The EAX was formed in 2015. After a temporary hiatus, it will be relaunched in the latter half of 2019.
Urban Economy Forum (UEF)
AN INITIATIVE OF THE UNITED NATIONS URBAN SETTLEMENTS PROGRAMME (UN-HABITAT)
2019 – PRESENT
An initiative of the United Nations Urban Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the Urban Economy Forum, directly managed by UN-Habitat subsidiary, International City Leaders (ICL), facilitates dialogue between cities, the private sector, governments, not-for-profits (NFPs)/non-government organisations (NGOs) and academic institutions to formulate solutions and projects to enhance the efficiency of the urban economy and promote urban economic development. Ultimately, this is a UN-Habitat endeavour striving to cultivate a vast international cross-sector network, alongside engagement of the United Nations (UN) system and other international organisations, in order to assist urban municipalities globally in recognising urban economy and municipal finance parameters.
The first ever UEF conference was held in October 2019 in Toronto, Canada, with aim of expanding this initiative on a worldwide scale.
Thoth Impact Advisory has been tasked to assist the Australian and New Zealand Secretariat of UEF and ICL in setting their Australian, New Zealand and Pacific Island Regional Operations. Founder & Principal of Thoth Impact Advisory, Kunal Kirpalani, collaborates with the secretariat in client and partnership outreach and co-organising seminars on issues pertaining to urban economic development in the region.
