Shared Value

Vision

We are an Impact Investment, Public Policy and CSR advisory practice focused on creating value for organisations through ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) interventions and impact assessments.

The foundational principle of our practice is to create ‘shared value’ in the process.

What is Shared Value?

Shared value is a concept articulated by Harvard University Economist Prof. Michael E. Porter and N. Craig Co-founder and Managing Director of social impact advisory firm FSG in their 2011 Harvard Business Review journal article - Creating Shared Value.

It is a management strategy through which private companies, multi and bilateral agencies invest and manage business opportunities addressing social and environmental issues. In essence, it encourages organisations to optimize their competitive value by determining creative solutions via customer outreach, new markets, talent acquisition and cost savings combined with a blend of business and social innovations.

This is in contrast to traditional philanthropy and corporate social responsibility (CSR) methods that primarily focus on grants and handouts for projects.

Private companies and multilateral agencies are increasingly incorporating altruistic social and environmental values into their strategies and ventures for profit while addressing social impact - hence the concept ‘shared value’.  They are increasingly launching for-profit ventures by leveraging on the expertise of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), philanthropic foundations, government and academic institutions through partnerships and collaborations.

Two new industries have emerged from embracing this shared value stakeholder nexus called ‘Impact Investing’ and ‘ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance)’.
